He is a brilliant musician. He is intuitive to the concepts behind the music. He can read complex chords faster than anyone I know. And he can strum, pick or play lead in just about any style or genre that I happened to toss his way whether on acoustic or electric guitar. He, by nature, is driven to do his best under all circumstances. Many a time I was happy with a recorded “take” and he would insist on doing one more because he knew that he could do even better. When I first started in the jingle scene, Steve gave me a pile of 2” 24 track tapes with commercials that he had already recorded. I took the tapes to Solid Sound Studio, found open tracks, recorded my own guitar parts and mixed the tracks into what was my first demo. He barely knew me at the time – so kind and gracious! Shortly after that he launched Steve Ford Music. We worked together in his first location, doing demos on a Tascam 4 track reel-to-reel tape machine. He quickly graduated to his amazing space on Clark St., with 2 world-class studios and a host of writing rooms, writers, engineers and office staff. Steve was crazy in demand for many years, and the best musical talent in the world was always on site in various configurations to perform his wonderful tunes. He is a terrific composer/film scorer/pianist, absolutely driven to create the best product, and one of the funniest people ever. I wouldn’t be the musician I am today without Steve Ford.
